What Printing Techniques Are Available for Custom Outdoor Bags?

Adding your logo or custom design to your outdoor bag effectively enhances brand recognition and visibility. USLINT highly recommends customizing your outdoor bags. To enhance the quality and visual appeal of your design, you need to choose the right printing method. Let’s explore the various printing techniques available on the market today!

Screen Printing

Screen printing, a long-established printing method, can create vibrant, textured designs on outdoor bags. It primarily uses a screen, ink, or a squeegee to transfer the design from a template to the outdoor bag. Therefore, it’s important to lay the outdoor bag flat during the process to avoid wrinkles.

While screen printing can be used on a variety of materials, it produces the best results on cotton or canvas outdoor bags and is suitable for printing simpler designs. However, it’s important to note that customizing designs using screen printing can be costly, and manufacturers often set high MOQs.

Digital Printing

Digital printing is a simple and cost-effective printing method that can produce rich, detailed designs. It involves sending a digital image to a printer, which then uses a laser or inkjet printer to apply the design to the outdoor bag surface. Unlike screen printing, it can be applied not only to flat surfaces but also to curved ones.

Digital printing is more suitable for designs with rich colors and intricate designs. Due to its lower cost, it is suitable for fast turnarounds and smaller orders.

Heat Transfer

After years of development, heat transfer technology has become quite mature, capable of producing even the finest and most intricate details. It primarily uses a heat press to transfer a pre-printed design onto transfer paper onto the outdoor bag surface. Heat transfer is particularly suitable for custom printing on cotton, canvas, and polyester outdoor bags.

Dye Sublimation

Dye sublimation involves printing a dye onto specialized transfer paper. High temperatures (180-210°C) and high pressure are then used to convert the solid dye into a vapor, which then penetrates directly into the polyester fiber. Dye sublimation creates patterns that blend seamlessly with the fabric, resisting peeling, cracking, or fading. It also maintains the fabric’s softness and creates a smooth surface.

Because a heat press or oven is required, custom dye sublimation printing requires a minimum order quantity.

Lithographic Printing

Lithographic printing involves etching the design onto an aluminum plate, then coating the plate with a layer of wet ink. The plate is then placed in a roller printing press, where the outdoor bag is passed between the rollers to create the printed image. To achieve good results with lithographic printing, the material must be receptive to ink. Cotton, jute, and canvas are all highly receptive, making them particularly suitable for lithographic printing. Furthermore, the high speed of the rollers makes it difficult to achieve precise color and detail, making it more suitable for large, solid-color prints.

Lithographic printing requires mold preparation, which can be quite costly. However, large orders can help spread the cost, making lithographic printing a more suitable method.

Tonal Printing

Tone-tone printing can create a vintage effect, perfect for outdoor bags with a retro, nostalgic feel. It primarily uses water-based inks to create lighter or darker tones, giving the print a aged look, much like the varying shades of jeans, creating a variety of styles. Because it utilizes water-based inks, the outdoor bag’s material must be receptive to the ink, such as cotton or canvas.

Hot Stamping

Hot stamping is commonly used on high-end outdoor bags, such as leather. The design is first imprinted onto metal foil or other heat-resistant molds. The foil is then pressed onto the outdoor bag’s surface using high temperature and high pressure, creating a durable pattern. However, it’s important to note that hot stamping incurs high mold costs, so custom orders (MOQs) are often higher. Some manufacturers may set MOQs for this service as high as 2,000 units.

DTG Printing

DTG printing uses inkjet technology to apply specialized textile ink directly to the outdoor bag’s fabric. The ink penetrates the fibers, creating a customized pattern. This method is particularly suitable for outdoor bags made from natural fibers that absorb ink well, such as cotton and linen. DTG printing can produce intricate, colorful designs and also accommodates small-batch customization.

In addition to these printing methods, you can also choose embroidery to add your logo or design to your outdoor bag. However, compared to printing, embroidery is more expensive and time-consuming, so it’s mostly reserved for high-end outdoor bags. USLINT can also meet your outdoor bag customization needs with custom logos or designs. Simply let us know your requirements and we’ll develop a customized solution to support your brand marketing efforts.
