A waterproof bag is a carefully designed container that creates an airtight and watertight seal. It’s typically made of waterproof materials like PVC and TPU, and uses a roll-top or zipper closure. It effectively protects items inside from water and sand during activities such as kayaking, hiking in the rain, beach vacations, and sea fishing. With current market demand booming, many bag manufacturers have designed and produced different types of waterproof bags. Today, USLINT will introduce the types of waterproof bags currently available on the market.
Roll-Top Waterproof Bags
Roll-top waterproof bags are the most classic style. They are often made of lightweight 500D-840D PVC tarpaulin, TPU laminated fabric, or nylon coated fabric. The design uses a top-down roll-up to expel excess air and compress the surface to achieve a waterproof effect.
Roll-top waterproof bags feature a simple design, excellent waterproof performance, and are ideal for OEM logo printing and color customization. They are available in various colors, such as 5L, 10L, and 20L, to meet the needs of different outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and beach trips. However, it’s important to note that roll-top waterproof bags don’t offer quick access, as the roll needs to be unrolled to retrieve items. Also, they shouldn’t be overfilled, as this can trap air and compromise the waterproof seal.
Zipper-style Waterproof Bags
Zipper-style waterproof bags typically use high-quality airtight waterproof zippers (such as YKK zippers). These zippers create a mechanical waterproof seal when closed, preventing any air or moisture exchange, maintaining this performance even under pressure. Combined with high-water-resistance materials like TPU-coated fabric or PVC tarpaulin and high-quality welded seams, they achieve complete waterproofing. Therefore, zipper-style waterproof bags are ideal for scuba diving, rescue missions, and maritime operations.
The zipper design makes zipper-style waterproof bags easier to open and close than roll-top waterproof bags, offering greater convenience. However, high-quality waterproof zippers are more expensive and require careful cleaning and lubrication to maintain their performance. Zippered waterproof bags are also heavier than roll-top waterproof bags.
Backpack-style Waterproof Bags
Backpack-style waterproof bags combine the ergonomic carrying system of a backpack with the waterproof protection of a waterproof bag. They often use PVC or TPU composite fabrics with reinforced stitching or welded straps to effectively improve their waterproof performance. Furthermore, they feature roll-top or zippered vents and additional reinforcement structures, allowing for more even weight distribution and greater carrying comfort.
Backpack-style waterproof bags are ideal for everyday and travel use because, in addition to being waterproof and freeing up your hands, they also feature extra compartments and mesh side pockets, making them very practical. However, it’s important to note that backpack-style waterproof bags are heavier, have a more complex structure, and are more expensive to produce. Urban outdoor brands and travel retailers need to communicate with manufacturers about customizable structures and costs.
Travel Waterproof Bags
Travel waterproof bags use high-density 500D-1000D PVC tarpaulin or TPU fabric, giving them better flexibility and environmental friendliness. They typically feature wide openings (top or side openings) for easy access to items. They generally have either roll-top or zipper closures and come with handles or shoulder straps for convenient carrying. Furthermore, welded stitching further enhances their waterproof performance.
Travel waterproof bags offer many advantages, including large capacity, a reinforced base, handles, and easy cleaning, making them ideal for professional activities such as boating, camping, fishing, and outdoor adventures. However, it’s important to note that travel waterproof bags are bulky and not suitable for leisurely day trips. They also require heavier materials and reinforced stitching, resulting in higher costs.
Compression Waterproof Bags
Compression waterproof bags use lightweight 70D-210D nylon or polyester fabric. To enhance waterproofness, a PU/PTU coating is added. Compression waterproof bags are primarily used for organizing and compressing equipment in backpacks or suitcases, and generally have an internal waterproof layer. Simply pack your clothes or sleeping bag into a compression waterproof bag and roll it up or tighten the top drawstring to effectively save internal space in your backpack or suitcase.
Compression waterproof bags are lightweight, easy to carry, and suitable for packing both dry and wet gear, making them ideal for backpacking trips and hiking. However, it’s important to note that compression waterproof bags should not be completely submerged in water, as their waterproof performance is not as good as other types of waterproof bags, and their durability is relatively lower.
Diving Waterproof Bags
Diving waterproof bags are designed for floating or short-diving activities. They use high-elasticity TPU, multi-layered tarpaulin, or EVA composite materials to achieve better airtightness to protect the contents. They also feature additional air chambers, transparent windows, or buoyancy foam panels to keep them afloat. They often use pressure-welded seams and have a waterproof rating of approximately IPX7-IPX8, allowing them to withstand short periods of complete immersion.
With their airtightness, waterproofness, and buoyancy, diving waterproof bags are ideal for boaters, rescue teams, marine professionals, or those working in deep water. However, diving-style waterproof bags are expensive to manufacture and are mostly designed as small and medium-sized bags with capacities ranging from 2L to 20L.
These are the common types of waterproof bags on the market. USLINT has developed a variety of waterproof bag styles, such as roll-top waterproof bags and zipper waterproof bags. Whether you want to purchase in bulk or have them custom-made, USLINT can meet your needs. Furthermore, we are excited to announce that we are currently developing more high-performance waterproof bag styles, so stay tuned!
